The island of Gili Trawangan offers a huge variety of things to do. In the past Gili Trawangan has been publicized as a party islands and it is true for those looking for parties the Island has the entire range of evening entertainment including discos, reggae bars, live music lounges and beachside relaxation spots, but there is so much more to the islands than this stereotype and in face on the other side of the islands to the party scene you can find deserted beaches scattered with the occasional piece of driftwood.
Restaurants on the islands serve a variety of local and international cuisines from around the world and there is a massive range of eateries available from great Indonesian cuisine to the stand up hotdog stalls to 5 star fine dining restaurants that easily rival their city based equivalents.

There is also a variety of alternative recreational activities available on the island including Horse riding, Cooking classes, Yoga, a modern air conditioned gym, Mini golf and plenty more. Amongst the many activities on the island, diving has to be by far the biggest industry and therefore it becomes a great place to live and start out as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor especially as the diving industry in the Gili Islands grows exponentially year on year.

IDC Gili Islands with Holly Macleod | Why our PADI IDC Indonesia Program isn’t the cheapest?

There are many PADI IDC Centers who have recently being advertising special deals, running completions and giving discounts. We here at the PADI IDC Gili Islands already provide a very competitive price twined with the very best level of training.

“You get what you pay for!”

The phrase “ you get what you pay for” is a particular phrase that should be considered when deciding where to train as this may very well be a decision that affect the rest of you scuba diving career. It’s important to consider who will be conducting your program and the facility you choose to take your training with.

It is often the case that PADI candidates see a dive center that boast multiple Course Directors, Master Instructors and Staff Instructors. On the face of it this may look professional but you need to consider who exactly is conducting the program? It is often the case that candidates never actually see the Main Course Director at the dive center and instead get lumbered with a staff instructor with minimal experience. Our PADI IDC Indonesia Course Director conducts every part of the Instructor Program from start to finish and all continuing Instructor education programs.

It’s always a good idea to check out the experience of your Course Director in terms of how many certifications they have, how long they have been doing it and their previous experience within industry. Our Platinum PADI Course Director has been teaching IDC for the past 4 years and prior to this has had experience working in a range of scuba related roles in a variety of locations including Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and of course Indonesia. Many of her previous candidates can be found working in Dive Centers around the Gili Islands and beyond.

It is also important to check out the facility where you will be training and of course the facilities PADI rating. Our Program is conducted at Trawangan Dive, the first ever established PADI Career Development Center in the Gili Islands and in fact the entire Lombok region.

So, although our program is extremely competitive priced we refuse to substitute our reputation for excellence by offering and PADI IDC Indonesia Discount, and firmly believe that the program is already offered at a fantastic price. So we can say that we are not the cheapest Instructor Program available, but also not the most expensive. So therefore we can definitely say we are the most reasonable, especially in terms of the pure quality of training provided.

Congratulations to our friends at The Dorsal Effect - A fantastic shark conservation project in Lombok Indonesia

Trawangan Dive would like to congratulate our friend Kathy Xu from the Dorsal Effect who has recently won the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) Young Social Entrepreneurs (YSE) Program award. The Dorel effect Team was amongst 4 winning teams, each winning $10,000 aimed at kick starting their projects.

The Dorsal Effect is a Lombok based ecotourism and leisure travel company that aims to promote shark conservation through alternative livelihood for the fishermen. Their vision is to provide future generations with a chance to see sharks alive in the oceans, rather than only through picture books. Protecting the apex predators like sharks also helps maintain the marine ecosystem that provides vital services like oxygen generation. Ultimately, this helps the human species by keeping the balances in the earth’s ecosystems.

The project aims to promote shark conservation and sustainable livelihood for shark fishermen through alternative livelihood generated by ecotourism and educational awareness. The general aim of the project is to organize day excursions  to be taken on a boat expedition run by once shark fishermen, off the shores of Tanjung Luar to Sumbawa and Gili Trawangan.

We here at Trawangan Dive believe that SITES has done a great job providing for shark protection through the mean of legislation, and the Dorsal Effect is combatting this Global problem from a completely different angle, actually helping remove those that are actively involved in shark fishing and finding an alternative means of lively hood.

If you are interested in getting involved with the project or simply wish to take one of their excursions check out the DorsalEffect website. Or if you are already in Gili Trawangan than pop in Trawangan dive and speak to one of our conservation experts or find one of our GoPro team members who are in full support of this fantastic project and will to do anything to help its development.
